Gerry O'Reilly
The rainy days of Glasgow, Scotland provide the perfect backdrop for Gerry O'Reilly's raw and often times, dark musical styling. Born and raised there, Gerry was always a musically creative soul playing a variety of instruments in a multitude of styles, from rock mandolin to folk electric guitar.
Pulling from his experience as front man for Vagrant, a rock outfit known for its eclectic sound and Gerry's addictively haunting vocal style, he came into his own with his first acoustic album release, 'Better Days' in 2000 (buy now on iTunes)

- "This track is one of the most emotive, honest pieces I’ve ever written or recorded and in many ways sums up what I think is good in real music. The synergy of strength and weakness. Simple verse chorus structure inside of an intro/outro brackets seemed perfect to convey the subject matter. A middle eight with vocal was discussed, but never recorded."

- "This was part of a twelve minute piece of improvisation at the end of a session. It has a bright airy space about it and pleasing repetition that makes it instantly familiar without becoming tedious. A second ascending mandolin line and harmony vocal were also discussed and recorded, but scrapped leaving the basic repeating melody at the heart of this small musical vignette"

- "With my dad as the world's biggest Beatles fan, I was always surrounded by their sound (whether I liked it or not), and left quite the positive impression. This track always appealed to me. Its sensitive tone and understatement made it stand out for me and in many ways heralds their movement away from more twee tracks of the same era. I had performed this live a few times before this recording, but never had an opportunity prior to try the second mandolin track on the choruses featured here."
